“It was tough. I want him to be better. I want him to spend time with our family and make memories. When you don’t feel good it just takes your life, ”Trista said, as she began to tear up the podcast.

“I’m not doing very well, and not just about him. I had a hard time for sure. I don’t know if this is COVID-19 or what Ryan is facing. It has been a strange year, ”she added.

Trista first revealed in November 2020 that Ryan had been battling a mysterious illness for several months.

Then in May, he revealed on his wife’s podcast Better Etc. that the mysterious disease was in fact Lyme disease.

“My immune system has been weakened by exposures to toxins and in particular to molds. I tested positive for Lyme disease. … It seems like something I’ll always have. Now I know and I can rebuild my immune system to fight it, ”he said.

Trista admitted on the Almost Famous podcast that “not knowing” what her husband was suffering from was very difficult.

“I try to see the positive. It is certainly a good thing to have answers. Not knowing is so, so difficult. These answers come with so many more questions. It’s actually difficult, ”she added.

The couple first met during the first season of The Bachelorette and have been married for 17 years, with Trista adding that Ryan has his “high and low days.”

“It is very unique for each person to find relief in this. It will be a lifelong diagnosis, ”she revealed.

“It’s difficult as there isn’t a single drug he can take. It was hard to watch him struggle because he’s such a strong human in general, ”she added.

“He doesn’t share that with everyone, so it’s hard to see the person you love most in the world feeling like crap,” Trista said.
