Chris Pratt thanked his fans for making his latest sci-fi movie, The Tomorrow War, the number one streaming movie since its first 48 hours of release.

Chris Pratt is delighted that his latest film, The war of tomorrow, hit record numbers in its first 48 hours of streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The sci-fi action film follows the character of Pratt, a military veteran turned biology professor who is brought back into action after a group of soldiers from the year 2051 come to Earth with a plea. In their time, humanity is on the verge of being wiped out by alien invaders called “Whitespikes” unless the people of 2021 help them fight the cosmic war.

The war of tomorrow is directed by Chris McKay and also stars Yvonne Strahovski, JK Simmons and Betty Gilpin. In addition to playing the lead role, Pratt is also the executive producer of the film. The film was originally intended for a theatrical release last December, but has been forwarded to Amazon due to the pandemic. It premiered on the streaming platform on July 2 and quickly hit the Amazon charts as the weekend’s most-watched movie.

The first reviews of The war of tomorrow had divided reviews on the film’s futuristic plot and storytelling. This is certainly not the first film to feature aliens and a group of ordinary characters trying to save the world from the brink of extinction. While some critics felt it didn’t have the benefit of beating previous blockbusters with a similar premise, The war of tomorrow no doubt don’t skimp on the fun. Now that it’s finally released on Amazon, it’s time for audiences to weigh in on its entertainment value. And with an audience score of 82% on Rotten Tomatoes, Pratt’s latest sci-fi film seems to resonate strongly with its viewers.

Interestingly, Pratt delivers his most enjoyable performances as a hero in action-packed sci-fi movies with humorous dialogue and heartwarming storyline at its core. He’s definitely honed his onscreen magic with hit sagas like Marvel’s guardians of the galaxy and Jurassic Park. The war of tomorrow serves as Pratt’s first solo outing as the lead star who would carry much of the film’s weight throughout. Its success proves that Pratt has truly found his place in this genre and is up for more action.
