Faye Dunaway has been cast for struggling actor Kevin Spacey’s “comeback” film The Man Who Drew God.

Dunaway, 80, will play a braille teacher, a role originally intended for actress Vanessa Redgrave before her reps confirmed she was not appearing in the film in May., according to Variety.

The film marks the first role Spacey, 61, played after a series of allegations of sexual harassment and abuse brought her career to a halt in 2017.

The Man Who Drew God sees Franco Nero playing a blind artist, able to use people’s voices to draw their exact physical features. But as his fame and popularity grew, he was wrongly accused of sexual abuse.

The film, known in Italian as L’uomo Che Disegnò Dio ‘, will see Spacey play the role of a detective who investigates the wrongly accused pedophile.

Speaking about Dunaway’s role with Variety, producer Louis Nero told the site, “She plays an old braille teacher who is an old friend of the blind protagonist played by Nero and taught him to read.”

Nero said the role was initially “intended” for Vanessa, whose husband Franco plays and directs the film.

“This is the role Vanessa Redgrave was supposed to have. Vanessa is no longer ready to travel.

Louis told The Man Who site Drew God should be ready by September, after finishing filming last week.

He also said that they had garnered a lot of “interest from buyers around the world” keen to buy the film, even amid the controversy surrounding its struggling star.

The last time fans saw Dunaway on the big screen was the 2017 thriller Inconceivable. She also worked with Kevin, starring her first film in 1996, Albino Alligator.

The new film comes after Spacey’s career collapsed following a spate of sexual misconduct complaints filed by underage men.

Spacey had been one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, but faced scandal after claiming to sexually assault Star Trek actor Antony Rapp, who was 14 at the time.

This sparked accusations by other men about his behavior, but none ever reached court and was denied.

Rapp’s public comments about him prompted Spacey to call himself gay in 2017.

He said he did not recall such a meeting with Rapp but apologized if the allegations were true.

Last year, he compared his fall from grace to the coronavirus pandemic and complained about losing his job over the charges.

Spacey described his “painful” trip three years after being accused of assault by a series of men and said he could relate to workers who had been made redundant during the spread of Covid-19.
