He’s not avoiding the series yet.
“The Late Late Show” host James Corden reportedly plans to revise the show’s “Spill Your Guts” segment amid growing support for a petition calling for the play to be canceled. The British TV personality spilled his guts on the proposed makeover in an interview on “The Howard Stern Show,” Deadline reported.
The controversy began earlier this month after TikTok star Kim Saira posted a video criticizing the “Spill Your Guts” article in which Corden, 42, forced celebrities to answer uncomfortable questions or to eat “coarse” foods. Some of the supposedly disgusting dishes included embryonic duck eggs, chicken feet and other foods that are “regularly eaten by Asians,” according to the clip.
Not satisfied with just streaming the “SPG” dirt on camera, Saira started a petition on Change.org demanding that the creator of “Carpool Karaoke” remove or edit the segment for its “insensitive” portrayal of Asian foods, features formal apologies and donate. to organizations working to help Asian restaurants and small businesses.
“So many Asian Americans are constantly harassed and mocked for their native foods, and this segment amplifies and encourages it,” Saira wrote in the document, which had more than 45,000 signatures as of Monday morning. She found the program particularly deaf in light of the nation’s surge in anti-Asian hate crimes.
And while Corden isn’t emptying “SYG” yet, he’s apparently considering changing the “disgusting foods” featured in the skit.
“We’ve heard this story, and the next time we do that, we’re not involving or using any of these foods at all,” the British artist told Howard Stern on his American show. “Like you said at the start, our show is about joy, light and love – we don’t want to put on a show to upset anyone.”
As a result, “Spill Your Guts” will now contain “coarse” delicacies of the higher octane, artery-clogging variety.
“In the same way as when we played it with [Vogue editor] Anna Wintour, we gave her a pizza covered in cheeseburgers, ”Corden said of the skit’s new direction.
However, it appears Saira was “disappointed” with Corden’s mea culpa, which she apparently only found out weeks after the late-night talk show host appeared on Stern, reported. Today.
“In my petition, I specifically asked James Corden to apologize publicly for his show,” the cultural activist wrote in a statement. She argued that “the reason I was really specific about this was because I think it’s imperative that her hundreds of thousands of viewers understand the harm in making fun of these foods, which are rooted in Asian cultures. , has on Asians who still eat them. “
She added, “Besides that, I still think he should donate to Asian organizations as well.”
