Kate Middleton’s absence at Princess Diana’s memorial launch on Thursday will be “revealing on so many levels,” family sources say.

Prince William’s wife misses the unveiling of a statue to mark what would have been Diana’s 60th birthday after the guest list was reduced.

And while Kate was expected to be on hand to negotiate peace between William and her brother, Prince Harry, a source told Page Six: “Catherine’s absence speaks volumes.”

“I think keeping the numbers low is a perfect ‘excuse’ for Catherine to stay away. William is fed up with the drama and Catherine doesn’t need to be dragged into it.

“They are planning a private family visit with their children, and that private moment is far more important than public rhetoric.”

The source added: “William is determined that the Sussex drama does not overshadow this important moment in remembrance of his much-missed mother and he keeps this at the center of his concerns.”

Last week, it was reported that invitations to the unveiling at Kensington Palace had already been significantly reduced in recent days from the more than 100 guests originally expected due to COVID-19 rules.

The palace confirmed that William, 39, and Harry, 36, will now only be joined by close family of Diana, the statue committee, sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley and garden designer Pip Morrison – like Camilla Tominey of the UK Telegraph also said there were concerns inside the palace that Harry would be ‘overwhelmed’ if the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge both showed up.

Harry has previously landed in the UK, where he is currently in quarantine at his Windsor home, Frogmore Cottage, where he is said to have received a visit from his grandmother the Queen.

His wife, Meghan Markle, is at home in California looking after their 3-week-old daughter, Lilibet Diana, and their 2-year-old son, Archie.

It looks like there will be no reconciliation on D-Day for the warring brothers, whose estrangement has only worsened since the Sussexes moved to the United States amid a separation of duties royal.

The source said: “It is very doubtful that there will be a gathering of the brothers for anything other than the reveal. Harry can be irritable and defensive and is unlikely to apologize or even acknowledge wrongdoing and William, who has seen the injury caused by his brother trickle down to the whole family, is not optimistic about how their relationship is changed for good.

“The chasm between them is more than the 5,000 miles between London and California.”
