While Marvel’s new Disney + series “Loki” largely takes place outside of linear time limits, it’s still a precious commodity for any working mom, including actress Sophia Di Martino.
The British star, who plays a version of the titular antihero known only as Sylvie on the show, revealed how the production team tweaked her character’s super costume to give her a hassle-free way to pumping milk and breastfeeding backstage.
Under Di Martino’s costume, designer Christine Wada made a few key adjustments, including two hidden zippers across the chest, to make sure the actor doesn’t have to completely undress on set to breastfeed.
“It’s not easy being a working mom! The genius #christinewada designed Sylvie’s costume and added hidden zippers so I could easily pump and breastfeed my baby between takes, ”she wrote alongside a photo of herself showing off the outfit. .
“Small (big) things like this have allowed me to do my job and be a parent. I am eternally grateful, ”she added.
Di Martino welcomed his first child with partner Will Sharpe in 2019, just months before signing for his role in the spinoff series, which debuted on Disney + in June.
Fans immediately responded to her tweet, praising the designer for taking the time and care to make the costume more functional for a working mom.
“It’s brilliant! So important that moms who breastfeed their babies have the opportunity to do it, and that a costume designer design this for you, that’s great,” one person wrote.
“And folks, there’s another reason that women designers are so important in this industry,” another added.
“This is an amazing costume modification by Christine Wada. These little details that we have no idea about make it better for the performer,” another fan commented.
In an Instagram post last month, Di Martino shared a photo of herself on day one of preparing for the role, which required the actor to learn a lengthy fight and stunt choreography.
“The very beginning of my [“Loki”] travel and 4 months postpartum! Hope, naive and VERY unfit, ”she captioned a photo of herself before a workout. “The incredible [Sarah Irwin] and the rest of the amazing stunt team had quite a job to do to get me back in shape! “
Di Martino made his first appearance in the second episode of the series as a variant of Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, which causes all kinds of chaos in various timelines.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor explained that she never read a good chemistry with his co-star before being chosen, as she was pregnant and living abroad during the process of ‘hearing.
“I didn’t really have an in-person audition; we didn’t do any screen testing. I couldn’t travel at the time because I was pregnant and Tom was in New York on Broadway, ”said Di Martino. “So it was a very quick process, but I think [director Kate Herron] was keen enough for me to do this after reading for the role. And from what she told me, she said that everyone agreed that I would be the best person for the job. So that was good, wasn’t it? (Laughs.) So it was super fast. I was very lucky and am so grateful.
