Netflix’s animated adaptation of the legendary video game series Castlevania is now at the end of its acclaimed four-season series, and fans are wondering what will follow. Today brings the answer: no more Castlevania, But different.
Castlevania’s future on Netflix was in doubt when the streaming service decided to shut down the series in its current form after showrunner Warren Ellis left the series over allegations of sexual misconduct. However, later rumors suggested that a spinoff was in the works and Netflix has now made it official.
With the current Castlevania over, Netflix is working on a brand new series that will reunite Richter Belmont (a distant descendant of the original series with Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belndaes) and Maria Renard – two characters familiar to fans of the game – in 1792. France for an adventure that takes place against the backdrop of the French Revolution.
Clive Bradley is confirmed as screenwriter and showrunner for the currently unnamed new series, directed by Sam and Adam Deats. Powerhouse Animation, who worked on the original Castlevania animated series, will be returning for this sequel.
There is currently no indication of a release window for Castlevania’s new Netflix spin-off, but the streaming service will undoubtedly have a lot more to share in due course.
