Relations between Prince William and Prince Harry have reportedly remained strained.

The brothers gathered on Thursday to unveil a statue of their mother, Princess Diana, on what would have been her 60th birthday. The event in Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace in London was their second public meeting since Harry, 36, and his wife Meghan Markle stepped down from royal duties more than a year ago.

True Royalty TV co-founder Nick Bullen told Fox News that reconciliation between the two brothers would be “very difficult.”

“It’s still a work in progress. A lot has been said in between. So much dirty laundry has been made public, so to speak.”

The award-winning documentary maker has been directing shows about the British royal family for almost 20 years and has worked closely with their father, Prince Charles, for the past eight years. According to Bullen, sources told him that despite the reunion, William, 39, couldn’t ignore his fury at his younger brother who recently spoke about the royal family in an explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, as well as on Apple. TV series + “The Me You Can’t See”.

“I am told that William is absolutely furious at the way Harry and Meghan have shared their views on the royal family, on their own immediate family, with the world press,” Bullen said. “I think it’s going to be incredibly difficult to come back from this, on all sides. Harry and Meghan feel like they haven’t been backed by the monarchy. But ultimately, William is a king in waiting. The duty to him passes. first and foremost. His duty is to protect the crown and protect the institution. And that’s what William is going to do.

Markle, 39, a former American actress, became the Duchess of Sussex when she married Harry in May 2018 at Windsor Castle. The couple welcomed a son named Archie Harrison a year later.

During the shoot, the couple said painful comments were made about Archie’s skin color before he was born. The Duchess has spoken of the intense isolation she felt within the royal family which led her to consider suicide.

Harry confirmed rumors that he and his brother had moved apart, saying “the relationship is spatial at the moment”. He added that “time will hopefully heal all things.” Harry also revealed that their father had not accepted his calls for a while.

A few days after the broadcast, William responded, telling reporters “we really are not a racist family.”

Bullen said the brothers were in contact to prepare for the unveiling of the statue. However, these conversations would have been brief.

“I’ve been told the boys communicate by text, but they’re relatively short text messages,” he said before the unveiling. “But they communicate.”

While Bullen noted that the brothers were doing “whatever” they could to keep things civil during the unveiling of the statue, there is no doubt their mother “would have been heartbroken” because of their strained relationship. .

“If Diana was here today I think she would have hit their heads like any mother,” he said. “People who knew her well told me that she regularly made the boys sit down and said, ‘You only have the other. Only you know what it’s like to live this life. take care of each other. And they did. They’ve been such an amazing team for so long. “

“I remember filming them several times and they were just dynamite together,” Bullen recalls. “I think she would have been upset by the current state of affairs.”

And William is not the only one to have been touched by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s revelations.

“I am told that their father, the Prince of Wales, is really hurt by everything he has heard, everything that has been said,” Bullen said. “He was incredibly welcoming to Meghan Markle. He really hugged her and really appreciated that she was part of the family. When he accompanied her on her wedding day, it was his way of welcoming her to open arms. He certainly did not expect this result. “

Despite the royal breakup, Bullen said that in the end, Diana wants her sons to be happy. Still, he thinks she would have wanted them to reconcile their differences and maintain a strong bond as they embark on different paths.

“As William gets closer to the throne, it will become an increasingly lonely and isolated position,” Bullen said. “The boys once knew they only had each other. And so not having your brother by your side must be very sad. I think Diana would have been very sad about that.”
