The Mountain View firm has signed an agreement with Amblin, the production company of the multi-Oscar winner. The document provides that the platform will broadcast at least two feature films per year produced by this studio.

The announcement is “Surprising and a sign that big changes are happening in Hollywood”, comments the weekly Variety, one of the most knowledgeable sources on the US film industry.

As this magazine reports, Netflix and Amblin, the production company of Steven Spielberg, “Have formed a partnership […] in which the company headed by Steven Spielberg will produce several films for the streaming platform each year ”.

According to the terms of the contract, Amblin commits to a minimum of two films per year, “For a period that has not been specified”. And if nothing has been revealed about it yet, “It is not impossible that Spielberg will direct one of the films concerned”. Unveiled Monday, June 21, the agreement surprised observers. As noted Variety, in the past, “Spielberg has been described as a kind of anti-Netflix”.
