Virgin river upcoming spoilers

Virgin river Season 3 was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic in a particular way.

If you’ve ever bunged the last batch of Netflix series episodes, you’ll have noticed the physical absence of Annette O’Toole’s character, Hope McCrea, who takes care of her poor aunt.

Showrunner Sue Tenney caught up Weekly entertainment to explain why this is the case.

“She was a pandemic pivot. We worked really hard to make sure she was still very present on the show,” she began.

“If we have a fourth season, everyone is now vaccinated and the pandemic is not what it used to be. So I hope we find Annette again.”

Unfortunately, O’Toole’s inability to reach the plateau during times of a deep pandemic meant that Virgin riverThe writing team had to rework some storylines for Season 3, including Hope and Doc Mullins’ vow renewal ceremony.

“We had two really lovely long episodes about it,” revealed Tenney, who put this tender segment aside instead of just letting it unfold off-camera.

“Two plot episodes on this. When we get to this point, which is a re-engagement ceremony, we’re definitely going to want to see this.

“But we have a drama going on with these two characters that puts that on the back burner, but also strengthens their commitment to each other.”

Virgin river seasons 1, 2 and 3 are available to stream on Netflix.
