[SPOILER ALERT: This article contains spoilers from Big Brother 23.]
The first head of the family Big Brother 23, Frenchie French, confused the house when he went rogue and named Kyland Young and Alyssa Lopez. He then claimed he wanted a “big fish” and planned to steal Derek Xiao. However, the winner of Power of Veto foiled his plans.
Frenchie named Kyland and Alyssa for the first eviction
Shortly after his team of Jokers won the first Head of Family competition, Brendon “Frenchie” French began trying to line up with people and expose his targets.
He told a few guests he wanted to break the trend of a woman or person of color coming home first every season and planning to target the types of “alpha males” in the house. Therefore, he intended to take it out on Brent Champagne but changed his mind due to a deep conversation.

Still targeting the “bros,” he briefly turned to Christian Birkenberger until he won safety in the Wildcard competition. Frenchie then lashed out at Derek Xiao, considering him a “guy from the guys”, but wanted to pull off a big blow and give him a backdoor.
Therefore, he claimed he wanted to nominate two women but went rogue and put Kyland Young and Alyssa Lopez on the block. According to the head of the family, his new target is Alyssa because he believed she would embark on a showmance with Christian. After arguing his case after his appointment, Frenchie hatched a backdoor plan for Derek X.
Who won the first Power of Veto of the season?
The HOH met its new Slaughterhouse alliance, including its candidates, Christian, Brent, Derek Frazier, Xavier Prather and Whitney Williams.
The group conspired to veto Alyssa so she could withdraw from the bloc, and Frenchie would appoint Derek X instead, believing they had the votes to kick her out on Kyland.
The next day, the HOH and its candidates randomly selected the other guests who would face them for veto power. They chose Tiffany Mitchell, Travis Long and Derek X.
Frenchie walked away, calling it a “worst case scenario” because none of his allies were chosen for the veto. Ultimately, Derek X. won the veto power, guaranteeing its safety.
How did the winner change the target for Frenchie?
Because Frenchie claimed that Derek X had fabricated lies about others and placed them in alliances, many guests turned on him, namely Brent. Plus, his victory thwarted the HOH’s grand backdoor plan.
Before the competition, Alyssa spoke to Derek X. about using the veto on her if he wins, promising him safety when she becomes HOH. While he didn’t agree with anything, he heard her and asked her to wait until the end of the competition.

Frenchie and her now close ally Brent have noted that they would prefer Kyland to leave Alyssa if the nominations remained the same, but Kyland appears to have the votes.
If Derek X uses the veto on Alyssa, it is currently unclear who Frenchie will replace. However, he previously named Travis an “alpha male” type as a possibility. Big Brother aired on CBS.
