A French superhero film with Pio Marmaï and Leila Bekhti, the return of Jean-Claude Van Damme … Discover the feature films that await you in July 2021 on Netflix.
If summer is more synonymous with beaches and the great outdoors, it is sometimes pleasant to make yourself a canvas in the air-conditioned rooms, especially as these have been offering an enticing program since their reopening on May 19. But you can also crave home theater, and this July Netflix has some pretty cool cartridges to give away. Starting with the highly anticipated French fantasy film How I became a superhero, initially planned for a theatrical release before being bought by the SVOD platform. Inspired by the eponymous book by Gérald Bronner, this work depicts a society in which supermen live in broad daylight. Less flashy than her Hollywood elders of the same genre, she follows the police investigation into a drug allowing the “non-heroic” population to have, too, powers. Between fantastic and ultra realism, this feature film with careful special effects skillfully humanizes its heroes (Pio Marmaï, Leïla Bekhti, Swann Arlaud, Benoît Poelvoorde…) by addressing their discomfort and the passage of time.
Jean-Claude Van Damme arrives on Netflix
This summer also marks the return of an action cinema legend. After several years of famine, Jean-Claude Van Damme is making his comeback in The last mercenary, surrounded by a cast as eclectic as they are promising: Patrick Timsit, Eric Judor, Miou-Miou or Alban Ivanov. Jean-Claude Van Damme will play a former and mysterious secret service agent back in France to save his son whom he has never met (played by Samir Decazza). The latter is in fact wanted by the government, which plans to arrest him for arms and drug trafficking following a pellet from a zealous bureaucrat (Alban Ivanov) and a mafia operation. But that’s not all, many more movies are scheduled for July on Netflix, here is the list.
