A season 2 for Valkyrie Apocalypse ?
Available from June 17, 2021 on Netflix, the anime Valkyrie Apocalypse knows a real cardboard box. Since it was put online, this adaptation of the work of the trio Shinya Umemura, Takumi Fukui and Ajichika (edited by Ki-oon in France), has indeed not left the Top 10 of many countries, including France. A question then arises: can we hope for a season 2?
Right now the answer is … we do not know. Officially, the platform has only ordered 12 episodes and a sequel is therefore still not in the boxes. In fact, nothing says that the clash between humans and Gods will resume in a few months on our screens. Nevertheless, rest assured, hope is really allowed.
Reasons to believe
First, it won’t have escaped your notice, Season 1 ends on a cliffhanger with the fight between Hercules and Jack the Ripper. And logically, we cannot imagine the creators having taken such a creative decision without having first had a minimum of assurance behind. Not concluding a story, it can happen, but not concluding a fight, it is much less obvious.
Second, there is still a lot to adapt. And for good reason, season 1 of Valkyrie Apocalypse (or Record of Ragnarok, or Shūmatsu no Warukyūre) only covers 19 chapters of the manga, which means that the anime stopped at the beginning of Volume 5. However, it is known that 47 chapters have already been written so far, which will soon bring the manga to a total of 12 volumes. In other words, there is already enough material for a season 2.
The important role of manga
In the end, the real question for the anime concerns the initial plan of the mangakas Shinya Umemura, Takumi Fukui and Ajichika. Do they plan to end the manga soon, which could then motivate the creators of the anime to shift production so that they can adapt everything at once in a season 2? Or, do they have the ambition to write many additional chapters / tomes, which would leave us to fear a possible season 2 on time but a very long wait before a season 3?
Yes, the future of Valkyrie Apocalypse Even though it is not worrying, it is nonetheless very vague …
