Loki Episode 4 features a handful of new God of Mischief variations, including “Boastful Loki,” a version that unmistakably resembles Thor from the MCU.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Loki Episode 4, “The Nexus Event”.

Loki Episode 4, “The Nexus Event,” provides a glimpse into what would have happened if the God of Mischief were Thor from the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a look at “Boastful Loki”. The alluring figure, played by DeObia Oparei, is just one of four Loki variations featured in the episode 4 credits scene. While each has significance, Boastful Loki has an undeniable connection to the god of the thunder from the MCU.

Loki in focus by Tom Hiddleston is saved from the destruction of Lamentis-1 by the Time Variance Authority with Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) at the start of episode 4. It turns out that Loki’s loving feelings towards Sylvie created a Nexus event that rocked the VAT. The couple are then forced into separate interrogations, which leads Agent Mobius (Owen Wilson) and Hunter B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku) to learn the truth about TVA employees being variants. Loki and Sylvie have the chance to face the Time-Keepers before discovering that the trio at TVA headquarters are androids. Shortly after this disheartening discovery, the evil Ravonna Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) uses a staff to “prune” Loki.

Although Loki is apparently erased from existence with the use of the VAT tool, he is alive and well. the Loki The episode 4 credits scene shows the God of Mischief awakening in what appears to be apocalyptic New York City. As he begins to wonder about his situation, he finds several characters standing above him, offering to help him. The current characters – Old Loki (Richard E. Grant), Kid Loki (Jack Veal), Crocodile Loki, and Boastful Loki – are all variants of Loki that TVA presumably exiled at one point. While each version is drastically different, Boastful Loki is particularly interesting because it gives viewers a sense of what Loki would have been like if he had lived Thor’s life. Not only does it carry Thor’s signature bravado, but it also comes equipped with its own Mjolnir variant.

Loki Episode 4 Post-credits Variants

With just a quick glimpse, it’s impossible to fathom Boastful Loki’s background. However, the name alone is tied to Thor’s ostentatious attitude when the God of Thunder was still aiming for the Asgardian throne. Maybe this Loki was actually born in Thor’s place, causing a Nexus event, putting him on the VAT radar, or maybe he ascended to the throne by his own power. Regardless, Boastful Loki has apparently taken on the role of his brother, taking the notion of “what ifs” to a whole new level within the MCU.

Appearance-wise, Boastful Loki dons furs similar to those worn by characters in Norse mythology, which is strongly tied to Thor’s background, but the character holds a hammer of all things. Prior to acquiring Stormbreaker, Thor’s primary weapon of choice was his enchanted hammer, Mjolnir. Although Boastful Loki’s hammer is modified with a key-shaped hilt and gold-plated head, Mjolnir was clearly an inspiration. Maybe this Loki forged his weapon in honor of his brother, or this path became his destiny to take Thor’s place in the Boastful Loki timeline.

Anyway, the remaining episodes of Loki will surely provide more information on the Loki variants, including the Thor-like Loki. The MCU could also kick off a curve by connecting the variant to an established comic book character the same way Sylvie was linked to Enchantress. The boastful Loki is already drawing comparisons to another powerful Asgardian known in the comics named Sigurd. Yes Loki isn’t up to any major surprises, the Disney + series could at least give Boastful Loki some key screen time. Forming a character with a mix of Loki and Thor is certainly not an event to be quickly glossed over.
